The Best Time of Year for Pest Control

Your season-by-season guide to eco-friendly pest control from an eco-friendly exterminator.

The Best Time of Year for Pest Control

Pest populations change throughout the year. Cooler months send pests into hibernation while the summer months invite them back in full force. This can leave homeowners to believe that pests are only a seasonal issue but, depending on where you live, it might best to apply eco-friendly pest control year-round.

Homeowners who live in areas that don’t consistently experience a deep freeze over winter should consider having a reliable eco-friendly exterminator among their home service providers.

Let’s take a look at each season and what your best pest control options are.

Winter

Regardless of what region you live in, winter is the easiest time to stay in control of the pest population on your property. The cooler weather slows their breeding and sends many species into hibernation. This is the perfect time to continue spraying to ensure that any remaining eggs won’t hatch.

Spring

As the flowers bloom, it is important to become more vigilant in your pest control applications. As the pollinators awaken, so do all the other insects – including one who would bother you in your home if given the chance. Before it gets too hot out, be sure to check windowsills, doorsills, and foundations for cracks or damage. As small as they may be, these gaps offer an entry point for pests to enter your home. By sealing these areas early in the season, you have given yourself a great headstart on your pest control for the rest of the year.

Summer

For pests, summertime is the Super Bowl, Black Friday and the Scripps National Spelling Bee all rolled into one. Millions of insects will live an entire lifetime in this short window of time. At a minimum, it is important to be sure your windows have screens and your countertops and floors are clear of crumbs.

Summer is also the best time of year to apply preventative pest control around your home so that the pest population is not able to swell. If you have done everything you can to prevent pests from entering your home, focus on exterior and yard treatments to ward off mosquitos and stinging insects.

Fall

As the leaves turn and the temps cool, it can be tempting to believe that your pest worries are over for the year. However, temperate areas will still experience larger pest populations through the beginning part of November. While it is no longer the peak season, you will still want to keep your preventative measures in place to avoid a surprise outbreak in your home.
